What it is
A workshop that happens to be good for you
The Shed is open to men aged 18 and over, retired, working, signed off, between things, new to the area, or just rattling around at home. Some come to build. Some come for the tea. Both are legitimate.
Projects range from repairs for the farm and local groups to whatever someone drags in from their own shed. Skills get passed on sideways: nobody teaches a class, but everyone learns something.
No one has to talk about anything. But things get said over a workbench that would never get said in a waiting room, and if someone needs more than the Shed can give, we can quietly open that door.
What goes on
Typical week
- Woodwork, joinery and furniture repair.
- Metalwork, welding and machinery tinkering.
- Fencing, gates and building jobs around the smallholding.
- Making things for local schools, groups and rescue animals.
- Tea, arguments about the right way to do it, and the occasional bacon sandwich.
